The job in full
Yitpi Yartapuultiku is a landmark cultural centre on the Port River at Port Adelaide, valued at $30M–$40M. Costimate provided full quantities and estimating support, with the care a community building of that standing demands. It is the South Australian project on the register, and the reason South Australia is on this site at all.
Cultural projects rarely follow standard details. A community building is designed to be particular, which is exactly what makes it slow to measure honestly: there are fewer repeated bays to lean on, more one off junctions, and more places where the drawings are still describing an intention rather than a construction.
So the work went the long way round. Where documentation left questions open, we flagged them rather than guessed, and coordinated with the project team to close every scope gap before pricing. Nothing was priced on an assumption that had not been put to somebody first.
That habit is not specific to this job. It is stage two of every job we take: measurement begins while the Estimating Manager raises the risks and clears the uncertainties with your team early rather than at the eleventh hour. On a building like this one it is simply more visible, because there is more in the set that only a person can settle.
Scale is not what made it slow. A cultural centre at $30M–$40M carries fewer repeated bays than a commercial building at the same value, so there are more one-off junctions to take off individually and fewer places where one measurement answers for twenty. That is a difference in hours rather than in method, and it is the reason a landmark building is worth measuring rather than benchmarking.
The photography on this page is by Peter Bennetts. The building is on the record for a bill of quantities and for the scope review that ran with it, and it is the anchor project on our Adelaide page, and the South Australian job on the site.
